Game 1: UN Squadron (snes)
The game UN Squadron is a very good game for a genre that has some very hardcore fans. I personally love the game. I played it many times as a kid as an adult I beat the whole game on the hardest difficulty (no small feat) and overall its a great game that does some very unique things that some current time developers can take note of. Success in this game comes from its rpg elements, the levels are fun and the planes an special weapons all work great, but without the system that ties those two together the game is not the gem it truly is. Games now don't do what this game does well, and don't do as well because of it. Look at the current state of games, games like Wow, Mw2, and many more have these leveling systems embedded into them. These systems come from games like UN Squadron, games that ignore these kinds of systems ignore the most important part of gaming history. They will never live up to their potential. This game has a simple system of buying planes an special weapons, the planes cost varying amounts are better in different ways culminating in the final gem, the million dollar plane, this leveling system gives you the ability to give yourself an advantage in the toughest fights and levels that most games tend to disregard. What makes a game truly good is when a smart person can take their intelligence and use it as a way to bolster their chance of success, now you could beat UN Squadron using the first ship, no special weapons, and it might take you a year. But if you play through the game using the leveling system to its full potential you'll do much better. This game takes a basic rpg system throws it into a shooter, and is unforgettable for it. I wish games of this genre these days did this, it is what they are missing. Because no other game I've played has ever done this in a shooter, I have to say that UN Squadron is the best shooter on the snes 10/10 for snes games, and even if it was released today I would give it a 6.5/10 because its just that fun and although the graphics and whatnot are snes, the gameplay is amazing. Well worth a try if you ever feel like it!
